Moscow - Russia's Supreme Court yesterday rejected an attempt by prosecutors to reopen the long-running case of the anti-nuclear activist, Mr Alexander Nikitin, acquitted of espionage charges. To applause from the public gallery, a judge leading the court's presidium finally put an end to prosecutors' attempts to reopen a trial for high treason.
The former naval captain was arrested in 1996 by the FSB after publishing information about radioactive pollution in Arctic seas.
