The Northern Ireland Equality Commission has called on employers to put effective anti-sectarian harassment policies in place and implement them consistently. Introducing a resource manual aimed at helping employers tackle sectarian harassment in the work place, the body's chief commissioner, Ms Joan Harbinson, said problems were often allowed to fester rather than being met when they arose.
"We advise employers to have in place a clear policy against harassment, to inform their workforce in unmistakable terms that such behaviour is unacceptable and to ensure that they have trained their staff to identify and deal with any problems as they develop."
