An anti-war activist charged in connection with criminal damage of a US navy plane at Shannon airport last year appeared in Ennis Circuit Court this afternoon.

Ms Mary Kelly (50) is also charged with trespass beyond the perimeter fence at Shannon on the same night, January 29th, 2003. This is the second time that Ms Kelly has gone on trial for an alleged attack with an axe on the Boeing 737.

A jury was discharged by Judge Carroll Moran last July following a four-day trial after the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Ms Kelly was remanded on continuing bail and the trial has been adjourned a number of times since.

Tomorrow a new jury will be sworn in tomorrow with counsel for Mrs Kelly telling Ennis Circuit Court today the trial could last up to seven days.

However, Mr David Sutton BL, for the State, suggested the trial was more likely to run for three to four days.

Ex-US attorney general Mr Ramsey Clark and a former assistant secretary general of the UN, Mr Denis Halliday, are expected to testify on behalf of Ms Kelly.

The US pilot of the plane, Commander William John Schneider, is due to give evidence on behalf of the State in the trial.
