The Irish Anti-War Movement has announced details of a regional day of protests against war on Iraq to take place this Saturday to coincide with International Women's Day.
Protests will take place at fifteen different locations across the country including Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Galway, Derry, and the organisers are expecting several thousand to attend.
"Women and children will suffer disproportionately if this war goes ahead in Iraq with tens of thousands likely to die and millions faced with homelessness and disease," said Mr Richard Boyd Barrett, chairman of the Irish Anti-War Movement (IAWM).
"The experience of all modern wars and the last ten years in Iraq is of total war where the innocent civilian population including women and children are targeted deliberately, in order to terrorise the population into submission. This is what the US are planning in this war on Iraq."
The IAWM also condemned the Government for failing to join the growing international opposition to the planned war on Iraq.
