Protesters against the US-led invasion of Iraq are to distribute 20,000 black shamrock badges this weekend to highlight what they see as Irish complicity in Iraqi deaths.

The Irish Anti-War Movement launched the campaign this morning with support from a number of TDs and senators, including the Green Party's John Gormley, Joe Costello of Labour and Aengus O' Snodaigh of Sinn Féin.

The badges will be sold for 50 cent at St Patrick's day parades across the country.

Many well-known actors, writers, politicians, trade unionists and academics have also signed a statement calling on the Government to halt the use of Shannon by the US military.
