Gardaí investigating the discovery of a man's body in West Dublin on Friday afternoon are appealing to the public for help in their efforts to identify him.

The investigation into the man's death was upgraded to a murder inquiry yesterday.

The unidentified victim, who was found near Palmerstown in West Dublin on Friday afternoon by a member of the public, suffered a number of wounds to his body.

Gardaí have described the dead man as being in his thirties, about 6'1'' ,strong build, he was clean
shaven, and he had a very tight haircut.

He was wearing a brown Gap t-shirt, with the word Gap written across the front, black jeans, white runners and
a silver Casio G-Shock watch. 

Gardaí believe the body was at the scene - among the ruins of an old church and cemetery - for around 48 hours.

Officers at Ballyfermot Garda Station have said they are unable to confirm if the death is gangland-related.
