Ronald Draper (25) a doorman at Charlie P's pub, in Eden Quay, was on duty at about 10 p.m. when he was approached by a man who fired a number of shots and then left the scene with a second man on a motorcycle. It is understood Mr Draper was hit several times.

The motorcycle believed to have been used in the murder was later found in the docklands area not far from Amiens Street.

Mr Draper, with an address at Brooke View Walk, Tallaght, was taken to the Mater Hospital, where he died two hours after the shooting.The Eden Quay area was very busy with Saturday night revellers when the shooting took place. The area in front of the pub was quickly cordoned off by gardaí and a full investigation got under way with a forensic team on hand.

Yesterday afternoon, a garda stood on duty outside the pub. "We are appealing for anybody who may have seen the incident to come forward," said a Garda spokesman.

Saturday night's shooting brings to 10 the number of gangland-style killings in the State this year.

The most recent was the murder last week of William O'Regan, of New Cabra Road, Dublin, who was shot several times in the head at close range by two gunmen at his home.

Niall Mulvihill, a taxi-driver, was shot at Spencer Dock and managed to flee the scene in his Mercedes. He made his way across the city to the Big Tree pub on the North Circular Road where he crashed, causing a six-car pile-up.

It was believed that he was trying to get to the nearby Mater Hospital. He was taken there by ambulance but died shortly afterwards.

Kieran Keane was shot on a country road outside Limerick city as part of a local gang war.

Raymond Salinger was shot as he drank with friends in Farrell's pub in Dublin's New Street, in the south inner-city.

His killer discharged a number of shots which hit Mr Salinger in the chest.

Charlie Merriman was shot in the head on a road near Finglas, Dublin.

Dubliner Paul Ryan, from Raheny, was shot in the head near Birr, Co Offaly.

Michael Scott, from Ballymun, Dublin, was killed as he lay in bed with his partner and children.

Robert Fitzgerald, Moyross, Limerick, was shot as he walked home from a party.

Declan Griffin was shot once in the back of the head by a lone gunman as he was about to enter the Horse and Jockey pub in Kilmainham, Dublin.

A native of Coolock, it is understood that he knew his life was in danger. He was carrying a gun and wore a bullet-proof vest at the time of his death.
