The brother of the young mother of one who died ten days after she was found lying on the side of a busy road near Drogheda, Co Louth has appealed for information surrounding her death.

Breda Ryan (21), of Cedarfield, Drogheda, had been in a coma in Beaumont hospital since she was found by a passer-by just inches from the carriageway of the Drogheda to Slane road at 6am on Friday, July 28th.

Yesterday her brother, Simon Ryan, made an appeal for information surrounding the circumstances of his sister's death and asked members of the public to contact gardaí in confidence.

"She was genuine, she was lovely, she was always happy, smiling. She was a beautiful girl, a lovely sister and you couldn't really describe her any other way. She was perfect really," he told RTÉ News. Mr Ryan said his family were "devastated" and needed to know how the 20-year-old mother of one died.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem on the remains of Ms Ryan on Sunday afternoon, with further tests to be carried out later this week.

Gardaí in Drogheda, who have been attempting to account for Ms Ryan's movements from around 4.45am on July 28th, have now ruled out the possibility that she was the victim of a hit-and-run incident. Instead, they are pursuing the possibility that she may have been victim of some type of fall, having been pushed or jumped from a vehicle.

Ms Ryan was found on a sharp bend close to a lay-by and picnic spot called the Curley Hole, which is four miles from her home.

Mystery surrounds how she got there and whether her injuries were sustained during an assault or by some other means.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and are asking that anybody with information should contact Drogheda Garda station on 041-9874200, the confidential line at 1800-666111 or any Garda station.
