Fourteen paintings valued at €200,000 have been stolen in a burglary from a south Dublin apartment. The burglary, from an apartment at Hazeldene on Anglesea Road, Ballsbridge, is believed to have taken place a fortnight ago.
Donnybrook detectives at the weekend released video footage of a blue Hiace van which was in the apartment complex grounds for a time that day, Saturday June 8th. They are anxious to make contact with the driver of the vehicle.
The paintings, which gardaí said were of "immense sentimental value", are two by the Belfast artist Markey Robinson, Cottage & Figure and Lonely Woman; Poppy Fields by Norman McCaig; two Frank McKelveys - a rural cottage landscape, Combridge, and a seascape, Donegal; Claddagh Woman by William Mulready, a George Gillespie landscape Owenmore River; The Stones by Nini; a J.B. Valley painting, Two Pipers; another landscape At Turf by C. McAuley; Kite Making by E. Roponio; two William Cooper portraits, Man Smoking and Cobbler, and People by G. Dillon.
Detectives at Donnybrook say anyone with information can contact their unit at (01) 666 9212 or the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111. The paintings can be seen on the Garda website www.garda.ie
