The Stardust Victims' Committee yesterday succeeded in having an application to transfer ownership of a public house located on the site of the Stardust nightclub adjourned.

A petition of more than 2,000 signatures objecting to the opening of the Silver Swan pub in Coolock, Dublin, was lodged with Dublin District Court, prior to Judge Mary Collins adjourning the interim transfer of names of Patrick Butterly and Sons Ltd to Jason Gamble.

In the first objection to the interim transfer, Stardust survivor Linda Hosey said the local community felt the Butterly family, who were the owners of the Stardust nightclub, had attempted to "pull the wool over our eyes with this name change".

She added that the community was "appalled at the audacity of the man" and would be continuing its daily protests outside the Silver Swan pub.

Malachy Steenson, a legal executive whose wife lost her brother Francis Lawlor and sister-in-law Maureen Lawlor in the fire, lodged a second objection. He told the judge that his family had only become aware of the proposed licence transferral on reading an article in Tuesday's Irish Times and appealed for more investigation to be undertaken into Mr Gamble's licensing experience.

Judge Collins said it would be advisable to adjourn the case until March 29th.
