London - British police are probing allegations that millions of pounds are missing from a fundraising campaign for Kurdish refugees run by the disgraced novelist and peer Jeffrey Archer, a spokesman said last night.
The police statement came after Baroness Emma Nicholson, an MEP and campaigner for the Kurds in Iraq, said earlier this week she was lodging a complaint over Archer's 1991 "Simple Truth" campaign. The writer claimed that £57 million had been collected for the Kurds.
