Arctic winds are expected to bring significant snowfall and freezing conditions to many parts of the country this weekend.
Met Éireann say the north and east of the country will be worst affected by snow but severe frost will leave roads treacherous across the country, particularly on Sunday night.
A spokesman said: "All parts will be at the mercy of a wintry snap. "Tomorrow will see average temperatures for the time of year but it will feel a lot colder than recently," he said.
Sunday night will see a northeasterly arctic air flow bring snow to Ulster and coastal counties of Leinster.
The spokesman said parts of Ulster and the Wicklow hills were all but guaranteed significant snow falls, while Dublin had a 60 per cent chance of snow on Sunday night and Monday.
None of this good news for those celebrating the Chinese new year - 2004 is the year of the monkey. Sunday night sees celebrations to mark the event in Smithfield square where the numbers are sure to lead to a collective feeling of warmth.
On the sport front, Leinster are playing Cardiff tonight at Lansdowne Road in the Heineken European cup. A record attendance of about 25,000 are due to attend.
The AA says a truck has broken down on the Naas Road just before the lights at the Red Cow Roundabout - so helicopters are the order the day once again!
