A Spanish Armada research project dealing with vessels which foundered off the north-west Clare coast is nearing completion.

A publication on the ships associated with the region which were wrecked in September 1588 will be available shortly in conjunction with an exhibition of scaled models of Armada ships.

Models of the English fleet involved in the attack on the Armada at Gravelines, off the French coast, will also be on display. The project is being carried out under a FAS Community Employment Research Programme.

The Spanish embassy in Dublin and a naval museum in Madrid have supported the project by providing historical material and the Ulster Museum in Belfast has also been contacted.
