Former Armagh centre-forward Jimmy Smith has joined the county's senior footballers as a coaching advisor.

Former Armagh centre-forward Jimmy Smith has joined the county's senior footballers as a coaching advisor.

Smith, who won an All-Star in 1977, has been working with BBC Northern Ireland as a commentator on both Radio and Television.

County managers Brian McAlinden and Brian Canavan see Smith as the ideal man to oversee their forwards coaching requirements.

Smith's appointment quashes rumours suggesting that recently retired player, Ger Houlihan, would adopt a similar coaching position with the Orchard County.

It will be Smith's first coaching role at senior level. He has trained underage teams at his former club Clan na Gael.

Dublin manager Tommy Carr has received a welcome boost with the news that full-back Paddy Chrisite has returned from injury and is in contention for a place in Dublin's team to play Roscommon in Sunday's league clash.

After injuring his groin last November, Christie was not expected to return until March. But, the Ballymun Kickhams man impressed selectors after playing the first half of a senior football challenge match against Fermanagh at the weekend.

Meanwhile, dual star Kieran McKeever will miss Derry's National Hurling League and National Football League matches this weekend through injury.

McKeever missed Derry's NHL defeat against Waterford on Sunday due to an injured hamstring but will receive physiotherapy on the injury tonight.
