National Football League - Round 4

Armagh maintained their impressive unbeaten league record with a five point 0-14 to 0-9 victory over Roscommon in Crossmaglen today.

The All-Ireland champions played assured, confident football throughout and, apart from a first half spell where the visitors scored four unanswered points, they were rarely troubled.

Paul McGrane and sharp-shooter Paddy McKeever excelled in the opening period and Armagh led 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.

Both sides swapped points after the restart but Armagh soon stretched ahead as McKeever and John McEntee opened up a three point advantage.

The visitors were dealt a blow when Frankie Dolan received his second yellow card on 51 minutes after a tussle with Armagh defender Francie Bellew.

Armagh, spurred on by the extra man and the breeze, kicked on into an unassailable lead with John McEntee totting up three quick scores. Gary Cox slotted over a late brace for Tommy Carr's side, but they were already beat.

Elsewhere, resolute Kerry defending in the dying stages denied Dublin from pulling something from this see-saw 2-11 to 0-14 encounter in Killarney.

Dublin were out of the blocks quickly and, through Tomas Quinn and Colin Moran, found themselves in a two point lead after 10 minutes.

Kerry regained some composure and turned the game on its head with fine first half goals from the impressive Declan O'Sullivan and Eoin Brosnan. Kerry led by six points at the break.

But in an unpredictable contest, Dublin found themselves within shouting distance again early in the second half. The forwards, inspired by Alan Brogan, rattled over five points in eight minutes to come within two of Kerry.

But Kerry held solid and towering defensive performances late on from Seamus Moynihan and Darragh O'Se left Dublin frustrated as they searched in vein for a match salvaging goal.
