A security review was under way yesterday at military installations in south Armagh after two soldiers and two demonstrators were hurt during clashes at a watchtower, police said. One of the troops suffered a cut to his lip, the other was thought to be suffering from concussion after the disturbance, an RUC spokeswoman said.
The two protesters were batoned during a confrontation with police who were brought in to clear the area after the fracas with the soldiers. It was the second Sunday in succession demonstrations have occurred, against the background of increasing pressure from republicans for security to be scaled down.
