THREE armed and masked men broke into a Dublin family's home and demanded money at the weekend.

THREE armed and masked men broke into a Dublin family's home and demanded money at the weekend.

In a struggle during the robbery two shots were fired from what gardai believe was a starting pistol. The man who lives in the house and his son received minor facial injuries.

The intruders got away with £1,000 in cash and escaped in the family's car. The incident happened around midnight on Friday, at Church View, Hollystown, Mulhuddart.

The men, who were masked, were described as being in their late teens or early 20s. They broke into the house through a back door. One was described as tall and the other two as "quite small". They were armed with a handgun, a baseball bat and a crowbar.

The phone lines were cut and the father and son forced into a bedroom, where drawers were pulled open and searched and money demanded.

A sum of money, understood to be around £1,000 cash, was handed over before the robbers escaped.

The family car was later found abandoned in nearby Tyrellstown.
