German police have stormed a hijacked double-decker bus in Berlin ending a four-hour hostage drama.

Two hostages, including a policewoman, were freed unharmed.

The armed man who took over the vehicle after a bank robbery was injured.

All the other passengers had either escaped or been freed before it stopped and the bus was ringed by police sharpshooters in the stand-off.

The hostage-taker had robbed the bank with another man. It isn't clear when the other man had slipped away.

After about an hour on the road the bus was cornered by unmarked police cars and came to a stop.

Police sealed off the area as sharpshooters took up position along a wall about 20 yards away.

They had negotiated for several hours with the armed man in a bid to free his captives.

The hijacker was shot in the shoulder as the bus was stormed. More than 20 passengers were on board.
