In the incident, two men armed with a firearm, approached the staff of a cash-in-transit van who were servicing an ATM at the junction of High St and Bridge St, near Thomas Street at about 7.05am.

The men, who were wearing high-visibility jackets and balaclavas and are described as being about 1.83m (6 feet) tall, fled the scene with a number of money boxes.

A white van which is believed to have been used in the raid was discovered off the South Circular Road a short time later.

Gardaí said no shots were fired during the raid and no one was injured.
