Two armed men made off with what is believed to be a substantial amount of cash following a raid on a post office in Wexford Town this evening.
The two entered the Railway News shop and post office, Redmond Square, Wexford Town, at approximately 4.45 p.m this evening and made off with several bags of cash.
Witnesses said they heard a shot being fired while the robbery was in progress. None of the four staff or 8 to 10 customers were injured or hurt during the incident.
The men tried to make their escape on a motorbike, but, crashed on 50 yards from the shop. They then unsuccessfully tried to hi-jack a van before making off on foot through the town.
