IT was an auspicious last hurrah for Chief Herald of Ireland Patricia Donlon, as she fulfilled her Final official duty in conferring a coat of arms on the President, Mrs Robinson at the Genealogical Centre offices in Kildare Street. Dr Donlon is stepping down next week as chief herald and as director of the National Library of Ireland While the honour was to be bestowed on the President, the event truly belonged to Dr Donlon, with John Gray of the Linenhall Library in Belfast travelling down for the occasion and friends Trinity provost Tom Mitchell and Pat Kenny taking a rare backseat to the women on this occasion.
