A bomb was defused outside a bar in north Belfast overnight, police confirmed today.

A bomb was defused outside a bar in north Belfast overnight, police confirmed today.

British army bomb disposal experts were called to the pub on the York Road at around 2.30 a.m. after a telephone warning was received.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the suspect device, which bomb disposal experts described as "viable". During the bomb scare, York Road and part of the Limestone Road up to the junction with North Queen Street were sealed off. A number of items were removed from the scene for further forensic examination.
