Army bomb disposal experts were called to a house in Kilbarrack, Dublin this morning after a suspicious package was found by gardaí searching a house.
Gardai found two lengths of metal pipe taped together while carrying out a search of the house on Mount Olive Road and called an Army bomb disposal unit.
Defence Forces spokesman Gavin Young said a bomb disposal unit was called to the house at about 9.30am and x-rayed the package which was found to contain no explosives.
"It turned out to be a hoax," Mr Young said.
He said surrounding homes were evacuated while the package was examined by the unit and the Garda Ballistics Section.
The package was cleared and residents returned to their homes by 10.30am. A Garda Press Office spokeswoman said no one had been arrested as a result of the incident.
