Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with their investigation into the murder of a man in the city last night.

The body of 36-year-old Charlie Molloy was found at Maigue Way, John Carew Park, close to the Krups manufacturing plant in Southill shortly after 10pm last night.

Gardaí from Roxboro Road Garda station, opened a murder investigation into Mr Molloy's death this morning.

A number of items were recovered from the scene and have been sent for technical examination.

The results of a post mortem examination which was carried out on the Mr Molloy's body today have not yet been released. However, gardai believe Mr Molloy died following an assault. It is understood the victim was known to gardai.
