SEVERAL people have been arrested in connection with the death of an elderly widow in Greenisland, Co Antrim. Her body was discovered by her home help in the hallway of her unlocked home on Station Road yesterday.
The woman, who was 83, was named last night as Meta Gilmore. One theory being considered by detectives is that she was the victim of a burglary which went wrong.
Meanwhile, the RUC has begun a murder investigation after identifying a woman whose body was found wrapped in a bin bag on the shores of Carlingford Lough, Co Down, on Friday.
Ms Eileen Moore (42), a mother of two, had been beaten to death. Her body was discovered by a family picnicking at the scene. The RUC believes that it was dumped there five days earlier.
Ms Moore lived in Newtownabbey, on the outskirts of Belfast. Her estranged husband, Billy, described her as "a lovely woman and a brilliant mother".
Her two sons, Jonathan (18) and William (21), had reported her missing after she failed to return home from a shopping trip to Belfast on Friday, April 26th.
Mr Billy Moore said: "The boys are coping the best they can. We put in a terrible week not knowing where she was. But nobody was prepared for this."
The RUC has appealed for anyone who saw Ms Moore between Friday, April 26th, and Sunday, 28th, to contact them.
