Arsenal chase Polish keeper

Arsenal hope to wrap up the signing of Polish international goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek from Feyenoord this week.

Arsenal hope to wrap up the signing of Polish international goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek from Feyenoord this week.

The 28-year-old Dudek, valued at £5.7 million by the Dutch club, has met with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and vice-president David Dein, and they watched him in yesterday's 2-2 draw with Utrecht.

Dudek is contracted to Feyenoord until the summer of 2003 but is expected to travel to London tomorrow with agent Jan de Zeeuw to negotiate a five-year deal with the Premiership runners-up.

Arsenal have targeted Dudek as a replacement for England keeper David Seaman who, at 37, is approaching the end of his career.

Seaman will be given his testimonial tomorrow night at Highbury when Arsenal play Barcelona.

Feyenoord are resigned to losing Dudek, who joined them in 1996 from Sokol Tychy and was a key player in the club's 1999 title campaign, coming in as a replacement for Ed de Goey when he went to Chelsea.

Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk said: "I want to keep all my best players, but if that is not possible, than we will have to look for a replacement."
