The secretary's office of St Colman's in Queensway, Lambeg, was badly damaged early yesterday. An attempt was also made to set a classroom alight when inflammable liquid "was squirted through a broken window. Blood was found at the scene of the attack and policed believe that the arsonist might have suffered a cut.

The principal, Mr Patsy McCurry, said the school would open today as usual. He was uncertain if the attack was sectarian and would not speculate on other possible motives. He padded that community relations in the area were good.
