Gardaí are treating as arson a fire which damaged a head shop in Dundalk today.

A man entered the shop on Bridge Street at about 12pm, and set fire to what gardaí believe to be an accelerant-filled container which caused extensive fire damage to the premises.

There were no customers in the shop at the time and the only staff member present escaped uninjured.

The man is described as being approximately 5ft 9’’ in height, of stocky build, with red hair. He was wearing a black hooded top and blue jeans and is thought to aged in his 30s.

The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination.
