Police in Northern Ireland are urging communities to be vigilant after another school was attacked overnight.
The Stella Maris (St Mary’s Star of the Sea) school on the Shore Road area of north Belfast was damaged after it was set on fire. Paint was also thrown over the building.
Police were called to the scene at about 2am today, where it was discovered that the school's canteen had been set alight.
This was the second attack on the school in the past couple of weeks. On July 15th, a boiler house was extensively damaged when a plastic sign and rubbish bins were set alight.
Attempts were also made to set fire to the school roof and sectarian slogans were daubed on its walls.
The latest incident follows a number of other attacks on school buildings in the North in recent weeks.
Earlier this month a fire destroyed Whitehouse Primary School in Newtownabbey, and a separate blaze a week earlier damaged St Patrick’s College on the Antrim Road, Belfast.
A fire at the La Salle Boys’ School building on the Glen Road in the west of the city in early July was also being treated as suspicious.
Police are asking members of the public to report any suspicious activity around schools over the summer.
