London - Arsonists are believed to have set fire to a hospital leading to scores of patients being evacuated, many in their beds, on Wednesday night.

An investigation was under way, but it was understood two separate outbreaks of fire were identified at University College Hospital in central London. The overnight drama prompted the evacuation of 83 patients and 20 staff from the hospital's six-storey Rosenheim Building.

A second blaze at the adjoining Rockefeller Nurses' Home led to 100 staff being forced out while firefighters tackled the flames. No patients were harmed.
