Sculptor Melanie le Brocquy tends to work on a small scale and in a quiet style, which may partly account for the fact that her work hasn't always received the attention it deserves. Perhaps she has also tended to be overshadowed by her elder brother, the painter Louis. But she is a fine, sensitive sculptor, and her work always stands out in group shows. Her style of understated figuration has the advantage of never being too strongly in or out of fashion, and it has stayed the course. Now the RHA Gallagher Gallery is devoting a retrospective to her, including a bronze head of Louis (left), and it opens to the public from Wednesday next.
