STREET ART was unveiled yesterday on traffic signal boxes in Dublin's Temple Bar in an effort to enhance streetscapes in the area.

The pieces showcase the winners of the Invoke Street Art Project, which aims to turn signal boxes into a platform for original artwork.

The art, which is located on Parliament Street, Eustace Street, Fishamble Street, Essex Street, and O'Connell Bridge, draws on characters, atmosphere and the culture of the city.

Artist Barry Haughey, whose art is displayed on the Eustace Street signal box, said the majority of his work was based on sketchbook drawing and doodles which were digitally manipulated into colourful images.

Artist Anna Matykiewicz said she focused on paintings of women in "different states, using different techniques".

The Invoke project was launched earlier this year by Temple Bar trader group Tascq. The best five pieces were chosen for display.

Tascq director Martin Harte said the unique pieces would allow people to enjoy vibrant artworks for free.

He added that it was hoped a new piece would be unveiled every two or three months.
