MOSCOW The presidents of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan yesterday signed a pact on troop reductions along the former Sino Soviet border aimed at maintaining regional security. "This day will go down in history.a President Yeltsin said. "It took us seven years of tense talks to reach this result, which is unprecedented for Asia and the Pacific region.
The pact sets limits on land forces, short range aviation and antiaircraft defences deployed in a 100km wide strip along the 7,000km border.
Experts say it will not affect strategic missiles forces, long range aviation and navy deployed in the area. The pact also includes a system of mutual inspections
