A former company associate of Mr Oliver Barry said she transferred over £120,000 into his accounts but didn't know what the money was used for.

The tribunal also heard that while Ms Maeve McManus, a former director of Mr Barry's concert promotions company, Quality Artistes Management, had told lawyers for the tribunal she had one bank account in the Isle of Man, she in fact had six.

Ms Patricia Dillon SC, for the tribunal, listed transfers from Ms McManus's accounts in the Isle of Man to Mr Barry. Ms McManus said QAM was in financial difficulties and she transferred some of the money "to keep the company going".

She said a payment of £35,000 to Mr Barry in May 1989 - the same month Mr Barry paid £35,000 to Mr Ray Burke - possibly went to Century Radio.

She said she knew of the payment to Mr Burke and when asked what her payment of £35,000 was for, she replied: "I didn't believe it was an election."

Ms McManus said she trusted Mr Barry implicitly at the time and was told by him he would give her a good bonus. "He promised me a share in Century and that I would be the richest woman around," she added.

Mr Barry paid her back in full in 1998, she added.
