At least 48 people drowned and many more were feared dead when an overloaded ferry carrying some 200 passengers capsized in Liberia.
"So far, 48 bodies have been recovered and 15 persons were rescued," Defence Minister Daniel Chea told a news conferencelast night, adding that close to 200 people were aboard the overloaded vessel.
He said the passengers were being ferried across a river after attending the funeral of a popular footballer near the town of Robertsport in northwest Liberia.
A defence ministry official said on Monday that the ferry normally carried less than 100 people.
