Gardaí in Co Cork are investigating a serious assault in a pub which left a 23-year-old UN peacekeeper fighting for his life in a Cork hospital.
The man was sustained his injuries when he was assaulted in a pub between 12.30am and 12.40am on Saturday morning.
Gardaí believe he was approached by two men at the smoking area at the rear the pub on South Main Street and an altercation took place.
Investigating officers believe the man may have suffered a blow to the head and was knocked to the ground.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition is described as critical but stable.
A Garda spokesman said a number of people have been interviewed but that no arrests have been made.
