A Dungannon man who lost a leg in a so called punishment knee capping has been in court on an assault charge.

Christopher Donnelly (25), unemployed, of Fairmount Park, was fined £150 when he admitted assaulting a night security man at a supermarket in the Co Tyrone town.

Donnelly was also ordered at Cookstown Magistrates Court yesterday to pay £100 compensation. Defence solicitor, Mr Patsy Hughes, said Donnelly had been provoked because comments were made about him having only one leg.
