The RUC is investigating an attack on four women in Strabane, Co Tyrone, late on Monday night. Ms Ann Kelly (47), and her daughters Margo (26), Donna (24), and Deborah (21) said the gang, who used baseball bats and hammers, told them to leave the town within two days or they would be shot. Ms Kelly's arm was broken in the assault. She and two of her daughters were treated in hospital.

The six masked men burst into the Kelly home on the Ballycolman estate after 11 p.m. Ms Deborah Kelly said they "burst into the house and started beating my mother. They then turned on me. They hit me with a hammer on the head, arms and legs." She added: "I know some of us have criminal records, but it's nothing serious."
