The Co Clare parish priest who was seriously injured when he was attacked in his home has officiated at the wedding of a young local couple. This was his first official function since two masked intruders stabbed him seven times, beat and robbed him three weeks ago.

Father Liam Kelly (62), parish priest of Parteen-Meelick, yesterday returned to the parochial house after his spell in hospital and subsequent recuperation at his sister's home. He received many messages of goodwill from Ireland and abroad. He officiated at the wedding of Mr Michael O'Brien (27) of Parteen, and Ms Therese Meenaghan (26), Gurtatogher, Parteen. A 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old youth are charged with the attack on Father Kelly.
