The chief executive of the Labour Relations Commission, Mr Kieran Mulvey, is to travel to Galway this morning to meet both sides in the Thermo King dispute, writes Padraig Yeates. He is taking the initiative because of growing fears that the plant will close with the loss of 650 jobs if the dispute is prolonged.
The company has warned that a continuation of the overtime ban by the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union will jeopardise its future. The AEEU, on the other hand, has accused the company of breaching procedures by unilaterally introducing a four-day week.
