New efforts to avert tomorrow's strike at the Royal Dublin Hotel are likely today. Proposals to use the services of the Labour Relations Commission earlier in the week broke down because management and SIPTU could not agree on preconditions to the talks.
About 70 manual staff, such as porters, cleaners and caterers are involved in the dispute. They are seeking pay parity with other major unionised hotels in the capital. SIPTU offered to defer tomorrow's strike to allow talks to begin, but management wants the strike notice withdrawn.
