A security company part-owned by the sister of convicted rapist Patrick Naughton saw its auditor resign last year after reportedly receiving insufficient information to allow him to carry out his audit.
The company, Comhlacht Slandála Slí Teoranta, formerly known as Hi-Way Security Ltd, is 50 per cent owned by Ms Anne Naughton.
It was her representation to Mr Bobby Molloy on behalf of her brother that was at the centre of this week's controversy over the former Minister for State.
Documents from the Companies Registration Office show Ms Naughton owns half of the 9,900 £1 ordinary shares in the company. The other half are owned by Mr Michael Keane, of Carraroe, Co Galway, according to a Companies Capital Duty form dated December 1999.
Records also show the company's auditor, Mr Patrick Griffin of P.G. Griffin & Co, Francis Street, Galway, resigned from his position last year. In a letter forwarded to the Companies Registration Office dated February 20th, 2001, Mr Griffin wrote that in accordance with section 185 of the Companies Act 1990, "I am resigning from the office of auditor of the company as and from the date of this letter".
He wrote: "I have been unable to obtain all the information and explanations that I considered necessary to enable me to carry out my audit. There are no other circumstances in connection with my resignation that I consider should be brought to the attention of the members or creditors of the company."
Ms Naughton and Mr Keane are listed as directors of the company, which changed its name from Hi-Way Security Ltd to Comhlacht Slandála Slí Teoranta in December 1999.
