Australian International Rules coach Garry Lyon has appointed veteran Craig Bradley as captain for the two-match series which gets under way at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday.
Bradley, who will be 38 later this month, has valuable experience at the hybrid game. He first played against Ireland in 1984.
The Australian team, looking to retain the title they won at Croke Park last year, enjoyed a comfortable victory over an under-18 Australian Institute of Sport selection at the MCG yesterday.
Lyon was delighted with his side’s performance but was forced to reshuffle his squad with injuries ruling Michael Voss and Jonathan Hay out of the two tests. Chris Scott has been called up as a replacement.
The Ireland team will warm up for Friday’s opener with a practice game against an Australian Institute of Sport selection at the MCG at 7 a.m. Irish time tomorrow.
Brian McEniff’s side will then train at the Junction Oval on Wednesday morning (late Tuesday night, Irish time) before training under lights at the MCG later that evening (early Wednesday morning, Irish time). A light session will be held at the MCG on Thursday before Friday’s first test match.
