US: Olivia Goldsmith, author of the humorous novel The First Wives Club that became a hit movie, died at age 54 after complications during cosmetic surgery, her literary agent said yesterday.
Goldsmith was under anesthesia on Wednesday for elective surgery to remove loose skin under her chin when she suffered a heart attack. She fell into a coma and died on Thursday.
Goldsmith's first book, The First Wives Club, is about three women who plot revenge against their ex-husbands and was made into a successful film starring Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton. The author of several other humorous novels, she had two new books, a satire called Dumping Billy and a love story called Casting On, coming out this year. - (Reuters)
