Racing: More than £30 million will be bet on Derby favourite Authorized and champion jockey Frankie Dettori as he attempts to win this weekend's classic at Epsom for the first time.
The 36-year-old Italian has never won the flat race despite 14 attempts. He has been runner-up once and third on three occasions, but the winners' enclosure has so far escaped him.
Bookmakers are predicting Dettori will finally achieve his Derby win on the 4/5 favourite Authorized — one of the most fancied horses in the race's 227-year history.
Dettori has been recovering from a fall at Goodwood on Friday and also a further injury to his knee after he tripped up while carrying his two-year-old son Rocco.
However, he has vowed to be fit for Saturday's race, saying: "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Dettori successfully rode Authorized in the Group One Racing Post Trophy and also in the Dante Stakes at York.
Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said if Authorized wins the race it would be the worst day for bookmakers since Dettori rode every winner on a seven-race card at Ascot in 1996.
