A postmortem has been carried out on a body found in a field in west Kerry on Good Friday.
Supt Pat Sullivan said it had been established the body was that of a male in his late 30s or early 40s. It had lain in a dyke for at least two years, he said.
The body was uncovered by a farmer carrying out land reclamation in the townland of Baile an Challa, west of Baile an Fheirtéaraigh. Garda forensics experts carried out an investigation of the scene on Saturday.
The fully-clothed body, with walking boots, was removed to Tralee General Hospital where Dr Margot Bolster, assistant State pathologist, carried out a postmortem.
Supt Sullivan said it was too early to determine the cause of death, but there was no evidence so far to say the death was suspicious. They were now trying to establish his identity from missing persons lists.
