Tenders to build Dublin’s first Metro line will be sought in the Autumn according to the Minister for Public Entreprise.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Rail Procurement Agency (RPA) today, Mrs O’Rourke said the consultation process was finished and over 30 international consortia had expressed an interest in building the Metro.

The RPA’s remit includes providing Dublin with its new LUAS and Metro systems.

The Minister told the new RPA board that they faced a heavy workload in the coming years and will be a key agency in implementing the changes to Dublin’s public transport system.

"One major task of the RPA is to deliver the LUAS and Metro projects in as efficient a timescale as possible," the Minister said.

Members of the RPA Board include the chief economist of Goodbody Stockbrokers Mr Colin Hunt and Trinity College’s Director of the Transport Study and Research Group Dr Margaret O’Mahony. The Board is chaired by Mr Padraic A White.
