Fine Gael MEP Ms Avril Doyle, for whom a warrant was issued for her arrest on driving charges on Thursday, yesterday turned up in Dublin District Court, where her case was adjourned until May 18th.

The Leinster MEP failed to turn up in the court on Thursday to answer charges of dangerous driving and careless driving on the M50 at Santry, Dublin, on March 26th, 2002.

She said a diary error led to a mix-up whereby her solicitors were due to appear to represent her as she had commitments in Strasbourg.

Yesterday, arrangements were made with gardaí to execute the arrest warrant, and Ms Doyle and her solicitor appeared before the court.

Judge Anne Watkin was informed of the mix-up, but the judge refused to cancel the warrant. However, she agreed to remand the case for mention to May 18th.

Ms Doyle is not required to attend on that day. A new date for the hearing of the charges will be set on that day.
