Beaumont Hospital’s Multiple Sclerosis Clinic was the only hospital in Ireland to receive an award for outstanding practice in treating MS from the UK MS Society.
The plaque was unveiled at the hospital today by the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Ms Hanafin.
Consultant neurologist Dr Orla Hardiman told ireland.comthe clinic was delighted to receive the award.
"We hope that this model can be taken and expanded to other parts of the country," she said.
The clinic was set up in 1998 and is the only one in Ireland where MS sufferers can see a number of specialists on one appointment.
Dr Hardiman said physiotherapists, occupational therapists, neurology specialists and social services are all available on site.
"People from all over Ireland often have to travel long distances to visit the clinic and transport facilities could be improved," she said.
