The Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology was awarded an education endowment valued at $40,000 at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, writes Michael Dwyer, Film Correspondent, in Cannes. The college is one of several international institutions selected as an inaugural recipient of resources from the Los Angeles-based company, Creative Planet.

The award is worth approximately $40,000 in software for its film and television curriculum. Mr Pat Molloy, head of the design and communications department at the institute, and Ms Una Murphy, head of development, accepted the award in Cannes yesterday.

"This is excellent news for the institute, its present students and its future students," Mr Molloy said.

"We are recognised as Ireland's national film and broadcasting school and this is a validation of the institute as a centre of excellence for applied film and television broadcasting education."
